An original ’32 Ford that’s been modified over the years. When we got our hot little hands on it, it was last modified back in 1960! Back then, the hot-rod was fitted with an Olds Rocket engine, Offy rocker covers and the cool McCulloch centrifugal supercharger you see peeking out from the top of the hood. This unit had a variable ratio pulley (like a snowmobile CVT, not bad for the 50’s!) and was pilfered from a ’54 Studebaker Golden Hawk. In case you weren’t aware, Robert Paxton McCulloch made these blowers for factory OEM fitment, while he opened a second company (Paxton Superchargers) for the aftermarket in order to not sully the McCulloch brand name. History can be both ironic and cruel. Love the superchargers, though. And you gotta love this ’32!
A better view of the supercharged Olds engine. Beneath the carb-box is a Stromberg that was a pain to find parts for and tune. The good news, though, is that when it was finished, this little setup made 383 ft-lbs at just 1800 RPM at the wheels, with peak torque of 424 ft-lbs. Not too shabby for a 2100 lbs hot-rod.
With the hood closed, the cut-out fits perfectly around the blower. Old-school cool.
The first Stingray in our hands back in 2014.
Helping out a brother…
A nice Chevelle with a blown 565 big block.
Who says beauty is only skin deep? This Chevelle can move out or cruise. What are you in the mood for?
More diagnostic fun. This car came to us from quite a distance. Always check the fuel pump ground on the C5s if you track your car.
More diagnostic and development work. These are Dan’s favorite days on track. There’s nothing like driving a race car in the wet (this one on slicks!) while trying to gather data. The owner was missing rains (the tires) but work has to go on (someone paid for the track!) Wait for some “dry” stints, hold on to your stones and go wide open down the back straight at over 140 on slicks in damp conditions…sideways. Hoo-ha!! Dan’s smile was so big, his helmet cracked in two!
A lap of data at full speed. Find what you love to do and you’ll never work a day in your life.
Probably the best grocery-getter Chevy ever made.
The beginning of a custom setup in a Super Bee.
Making a new trunk floor for the Bee that’ll include a window to view the cool stuff underneath.
Fits like a glove. Now it just needs a couple of finishing touches…
…like this custom cover Dan made for the battery tray. The angry ‘Bee looks cooler with the Nos bottle as a back-pack.
A set of lights for night viewing helps too. This ‘Bee’s laughing now!
Trans Am GT2. Awesome class, awesome cars!
German V12 things happening. Can you say 838 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels?
Meep-meep! Turbo Si coming through!
Dan’s SSR used as an E-85 development tool back in 2008. It’s one thing to make a car run well. It’s another to learn enough to make it run perfectly under all conditions all the time. Learning. Always learning.
Learning pays off.
Then word gets around. Suddenly you have a family get-together with people from all over North America! PARTY!!!
Supercharged SS ‘vert.
Looking good in there!
A father/son effort. Stroked 383 with aftermarket EFI. Completely restored and completely awesome!
Speaking of restoration…This beautiful Vette has the GM e-rod LS3.
Another job well done.
Hey, is this a cousin of yours?
Don’t worry. He’s never hanging around anywhere for too long! 😉
